Typing is something most of us do every day. It’s rather tough to not get into a rut – using the same words over and over again.

We have found a solution to the tedium of typing – typing games!

A game we recently came across, Z Type, is a little like Asteroids, except instead for asteroids, they’re words. To shoot the words you have to type them; meanwhile the words double and become more complex, and come at you faster.

While some may dismiss games as just that, games. We believe games have a place in fostering creativity, and aiding in day to day life.

As far as we can tell, there are quite a couple uses for this game:

  1. Memorization

Z Type allows you the option of putting in your own text. An advantage that could be useful when planning a pitch, or memorizing some sort of other speech. Seeing the words, typing the words, commits them to memory.

2. Breaking out of “Creativity Block”

Sometimes, something we like to call a “word-rut” occurs. You know, when for some reason you keep using the same words over and over and over again. It’s like a template in your head.

When this sort of word-rut occurs, sometimes it’s good to get out of your own head.

Alternatively useful in Z Type, if you have settings put to “Random”, the onslaught of words coming at you can break that cycle we were writing about above – the rut. The words in your brain become disrupted and suddenly you can think straight again.

From there not only have you broken the cycle, you can now go back to your writing all fresh and new.

From where we’re sitting, writing, designing, being creative, it’s all fun! Incorporating games into strategy really only makes sense. If we keep our writing (or creative) strategies playful, then logic lends itself to the idea that our past experiences of being creatively blocked will not be colored negatively.

So let’s keep marketing, content, design, and social interaction positive, shall we?
