One big part of the marketing job is being timely. Being ready for all of those big holidays and events around the world.

Social Media really allows us to tap into the universal connection, but without good content there’s not much point.

We’re sad to see the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio come to an end. We’ve seen some amazing things (gymnastics anyone?). What we’ve also noticed were some fantastic advertising!

 

We’ve picked 5 of our favourites for you to enjoy!

1. NBC Teams Up with BuzzFeed

NBC teamed up with the more hip and edgy BuzzFeed to gain momentum with a younger generation on SnapChat and Instagram.

From a quiz entitled “Can You Guess The Sport By The Athlete’s Butt?” to the U.S. Women’s Wrestling Team destroying watermelons, BuzzFeed’s channel was a huge success.

 

 

2. Coca-Cola, #ThatsGold

Coca-Cola has always been known for its timely and effective campaigns. From Christmas to Valentine’s Day, Rio Olympics did not disappoint.

Coca-Cola compares the feeling of winning Gold at the Oplympics with that first sip of cold soda. Maybe a little bit of a stretch, but they sure do a good a job (as they always do) of making it feel like drinking a Coke is small accomplishment.

 

3. Procter & Gamble, “Thank You Mom”

There is nothing like nostalgia to help a brand resonate with audiences. At the 2012 Olympics, Procter & Gamble used parental love to invoke strong emotions in viewers. They brought back that same Ad this Rio Olympics with the same effect.

For us, we have no issue with them reusing the material. You know what they say: If it ain’t broke. Still made us cry.

 

4. Under Armour, “Rule Yourself”

For the 2016 Summer Olympics, Under Armour showcased the inner and outer strength it takes to be a truly spectacular professional athlete.

Under Armour’s branding is all about 24/7 hard-work ethic when it comes to fitness, making Rio 2016 a perfect area to highlight their products.

This year they put everyone’s favourite Wonder-Boy swimmer, Micheal Phelps, in their Ad. He’s exhausted, he’s tough, his legs are longer than two of me put together. The commercial’s pretty inspiring – both making you think “Gee, if I could just get my life together enough for a 5am run” while simoultaneously “If I just had cool Under Armour leggings, I’d want to be seen running at 5am”.

 

5. Virgin Media, #BeTheFastest

The Jamaican runner, Usain Bolt, is an internet favourite right now for his cheeky grins on the race track at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

In 2009 Bolt set the world record for 100-meter sprint in Berlin at 9.58 seconds. Virgin put together a really fun ad dispicting ten 9.58 second segments each highlighting different areas of Bolt’s life, from dancing at clubs to training; they even show him as a super hero.

What better way to highlight speed with one of the fastest men on earth?
